Columbus, Ohio – Amanda Winner, a senior at Minster Jr/Sr High School, was named a recipient of a $2,500 Lyle B. Wright Scholarship, one of four awarded by American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP).
AMP is the nonprofit wholesale power supplier and services provider for 135 member municipal electric systems in Ohio, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
The AMP Board of Trustees established the scholarship program in memory of Lyle B. Wright, former Bowling Green, Ohio utilities director and a strong public power advocate who served on the organization’s Board of Trustees from 1979 until his death in 1986. The $2,500 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors whose household receives electricity from an AMP member utility.
Winner has been active in the National Honor Society, Science Club and Garden Club. She has also participated in Drama Club, band, swim team , CYO basketball and has served as a 4-H camp counselor over the past several years.
Winner has been accepted to Xavier University to pursue a degree in occupational therapy.
The Lyle B. Wright Scholarship is one of two scholarship programs administered by AMP. Since 1988, $308,000 has been awarded to deserving high school seniors through the scholarship programs. The other three recipients of the 2017 Lyle B. Wright Scholarship are Meili Leung of Montpelier, Ohio; Jenna Lybarger of Shelby, Ohio; and Camille Watren of Versailles, Ohio.
